World of Randor
News
July 10, 2008
One month anniversary of the creation of Randor! I'm announcing this because I, um, forgot about the Randor day party we were gonna hold...
Again. I have to talk to Frost, but I'm gonna lobby for a Randor celebration...maybe a week or two from now. Annother thing to get us more members :-)

July 9, 2008
We've got 17 members! *danss*
Be our 18th! Just, like...sign up and stuff.

July 8, 2008
Where hath everyone gonst? Lol. I think that the user's activity mimics the admins, and I was away this past week due to relatives visiting.

July 3, 2008
Well, we've got 16 members. I'm sad to say that not all of them are as active as I had hoped. Still, there's only a couple of people who haven't been on in the last few days, so that's not too terrible. Actually, it's pretty good. JUST SIGN UP, GUESTS

July 2, 2008
Happy Canada Day, for those of us (ahem) that live there! I know this message is a day late, but I was busy watching the parade and hanging out with Frost :-)

June 30, 2008
Whoof, unlucky time for Randor - both admins were unable to be active. Well, I'm back now, and Frost should be back in a day or so, so...
Just a note to the peeps - I'll probably be less active during the weekend, for various reasons.

Hiya everyone! This is Remarque. Just saying that the draak farms are up and running, we're really looking for new members, those of you who advertise, and so on.
We've got 12 members, and I'm really looking forwards to getting more.

June 24, 2008
This is just a notice to say that on Thursday, I (Frost) am leaving for a few days. I should be back Tuesday or so. It's like a family reunion to bury my grandmother's ashes next to my grandfather's. So, try not to wither from lack of Frost, mkay? :)

June 23, 2008
Due to a brief hiatus in my own activity (I had a cousin over for the weekend and couldn't go on) we got slightly less active. Members and guests alike will be happy to hear that we're no longer in the slightest bit inactive - go ussss!

June 18, 2008
We've launched a draak breeding program! Checker out.

June 17, 2008
Nine members! Go ussss!!!

June 15, 2008
Eight members, two stories, three chapters - we're really getting there! GO USSS! ...Remeber to advertise, folks.

June 12, 2008
We've got 7 members! Go usss!

June 11, 2008
We now have two staff members - myself, and our co-admin Frost Spirit!

June 10, 2008
We've launched the site! It took hours and hours of backbreaking work, but I think I'm finally happy with it.
I'll have to make a better banner, and I'll have to make us an affiliation banner. Then I'll have to advertise *shudders*.
I'm finally more-or-less happy with the skin! Sure, it'll probably get refined a little...OK, a lot, but it'll stay pretty much the way it is.
There aren't enough resources yet. Must fix.
...But first, I must go to bed. *yawns* It's 3 in the morning here, and I'm busy tomorrow.
Welcome
Welcome to the world of Randor!
We're a very unique writing forum - we share tecniques, ideas, etc, but we also have our very own little world - Randor.
The world of Randor is highly user-created: that is, I gave the basic idea and some of the places, landmarks, races, etc, but users created the rest!
The result is a rich, thriving community, with a flexible base for toning your writing skills.
Sit back, relax, and enjoy.

Landmarks

...Randor has a variety of different landmarks. Here are a few of the more impressive ones:

EASTERN RANDOR: This is dwarf country, though other species inhabit it. Dwarves are a merry little folk most of the time, but their species is interwoven with mystery.

Standing Circle - This is a huge ring of stones, some weighing hundreds of tons, that is placed in eastern Randor. Locals believe it to be the meeting-place for demons, and, once upon a time, they were right. Luckily, the demons were banished some hundreds of years ago, and haven't been back since.

Stone Dwarf - Constructed by ancient dwarves thousands of years ago, this Stone Dwarf is made out of a single piece of granite. Some think it depicted their king. Others think it was a border mark. Still others believe that it was some great altar.
Whatever it was, it still stands there, little grey eyes hard under its little grey helmet.

Aloh Ramara (Weeping Caves) - This is also in dwarf territory. It seems to be a large network of marble caves. They are said to sound like a woman weeping, but no one's ever heard them and come back...alive.
There is an ancient rhyme about the Aloh Ramara (roughly translated) -
Deep within the crawling depths
Past the murky stones
Lies a maiden, once alive
Who now is made of bones
Lost she was, those years ago
And now she cries and weeps
For she is lonely, in the caves
Surrounded by the deeps.

...Obviously, the original version also rhymed, but when it translated into English the rhymes were lost. So a little tweaking here and a little twanging there and it rhymes again.

Ravenmoor - This is an abandoned city of the dwarves. It's original dwarvish name is 'Raaksow', translating quite litrally into its modern name. It was abandoned some four hundred years ago when a plague broke out among the dwarves, and then had to abandon their city and leave it to the dead and the dying, hoping some would survive.

Freod - Dwarvish: 'Fire'. A dormant volcano, where all of the inhabitants of eastern Randor mine for iron.

WESTERN RANDOR: People place. Humans colonised this from who knows where.

Skytree - This is a huge tree growing near the coast. It's at least two thousand years old, if not even more, and it still buds every year and continues growing. This might be due to the wood sprites who live on its brances.

Riverwood - A very old, misty forest. Legend has it that it's never been cleared.

Singing Caves - Similiar to the dwarvish Weeping Caves, except not so fatal. As it turns out, the ringing notes are caused by rock rats sharpening their claws, which they do all day long and have been since the dawn of time.

The Snakehouse - One of the most recent Randoorian landmarks, this miniature hotel was created by an eccentric rich man, who thought it would be just hi-lar-ious if snakes had their own hotel. It does good business for the town it's in, however, so people leave it up. (Though it's been skeptisised whether any snakes have actually been spotted in it.)

NORTHERN RANDOR: Dragon/Elf country. Quite a dangerous place indeed.

The Rhusharm - A hot, stinky pool high in the mountains. Elves bless their children in it, and dragons do the same. (Hopefully not at the same time.)

Community Festival - This is a popular event among the elves, who bake massive feasts, enough for the entire community and more. You're not allowed to eat unless you've brought something. It's like a giant potluck, and has been happening annually for the last fifteen hundred years.
Humans are welcome, as long as they bring something to eat, and so are dwarves, though they must bring along as much as they want to consume (Dwarves are known for their excessive eating habits.) The friendlier dragons tag along with whoever they want, and generally have a good time terrifying children, then calming them again.
Unicorns and bicorns, too, come along, and give rides for the children (and the occasional drunken adult).

Shanyard - A spear of solid crystal, about twenty feet high, that stands up out of the rock high in the mountains. No one knows what it's for or why it's there, but they assume it's there for something. It must be, right? (Young dragons sometimes say that if you sharpen your claws on it, they'll keep an edge longer. And they're right.)

Lunavest - Simply a spire of rock that sticks out of the side of a mountain, many thousands of feet up. Every July, hordes of dragons and draaks gather to watch the moon shine directly onto it. This is the time, usually, that a new leader among the dragons is elected.

SOUTHERN RANDOR: Just about everyone lives here. It's not exactly a happy place, in general, but it works fine for everyone.

Hayged's Rest - Legend has it that Hayged herself stayed here one night, and when she left the following morning, the bottom of the lake was stained white, and has been ever since.

Serpint - Bi-Annual seaserpent catching competition. Seas serpents, of course, are very against this festival, but it continues, simply because it always has.

...I've left the exact locations of these landmarks out, to add extra flexibility. Just keep them in the general area, kay?

Josa Key- Its a small clearing full of grass and flowers but very few weeds in the clearing is a brilliant waterfall coming off of a 20-foot high cliff and forming Yolen River at the bottom. On top of the waterfall is Lake Burgundy. It is located in Foredda.

Every hero is on a journey to find his place in the world, it is a JOURNEY, you don't start at the end, otherwise they can't make a movie about it later.
